Celebrate San Diego Beer Week 2010 with SDTweetup and TapHunter!

Remember when we used to all get together every month or so for the SDTweetup? Well, SDTweetup is getting back into a groove. We had a very fun movie event in September with the advanced screening of Catfish, and now a new SDTweetup has been scheduled for November.

The time seemed right to introduce two somewhat overlapping groups to each other, formally. SDTweetuppers, meet SD Beer Week. Craft beer lovers in San Diego, how’d you like to come to an SDTweetup? In this spirit, we’ve joined up with Melani and Jeff “Flash” Gordon of TapHunter.com to create a unique event.

What: SDTweetup Celebrates SD Beer Week with TapHunter
Where: West Coast Tavern, 2895 University Ave., San Diego
When: Tuesday, November 9, 7:00 PM
Who: The first 250 people who RSVP here

We’ll have all the usual SDTweetup mayhem, giveaways, and usual suspects (who are probably some of your closest friends by now), along with a new injection of hops, malt, and beer culture. There will be tasty craft beer and food pairings from West Coast’s chef Peter Zakarian to satisfy your palate, and a TweetWall to post your juiciest OH’s and most random photos of the event. (Many thanks to Gabe Lawrence and tweetwalllive.com for this.)

You’ll also learn more about the over 300 events scheduled to happen during SD Beer Week, and have an opportunity to plot out your attending strategy with your Twitter friends.

Our sponsors will make coming worth your while, too. The generous folks at mophie will be giving away 10 mophie juice packs for keeping your iPhone or iPod Touch charged up all day. TapHunter is also planning to bring some special prizes. To enter to win, please win a business card of some sort–time to order those moo cards!–so we can draw yours to win.

Attendance is capped at 250, so RSVP today! If this is your first SDTweetup, get the most out of it by first reading these tips.

Easy riders: Park-2-Park Shuttle connects North Park, South Park nightlife

Why do bars have parking lots?

It’s a fair question. Drinking and driving is both dangerous and illegal. Yet in San Diego, most people drive to and from their favorite bar.

The truth is, bars will have parking lots as long as their customers have no viable transportation alternative. That’s starting to change in North Park, however, with the newly-initiated Park-2-Park Shuttle Service.

Begun last week, the service runs Thursday, Friday, and Saturday nights starting at 6 PM. It carries foodies and bar patrons to one of 9 stops on a loop that covers 30th Street from Beech to El Cajon Boulevard, then parts of Park Boulevard and Adams Avenue. The cost is $5 for an all-night pass, which is a hard-to-lose wristband. Service continues until midnight on Thursday, and 2 AM Friday and Saturday. Venues on the route include Ritual Tavern, Blind Lady Ale House, Sea Rocket Bistro, Red Fox Room, Live Wire, Lancers, Air Conditioned Lounge, Jayne’s Gastropub, Small Bar, Lei Lounge, and True North.

Relive the Snuggie Pub Crawl in photos and video

Get your Snuggie on!

Get your Snuggie on!

If, like me, you didn’t have the gumption to put on a Snuggie and toddle drunkenly around North Park last Friday the 13th, don’t worry.  Video and photos of the event are now available for your viewing pleasure.

I especially like the Snuggie Patriot, who described herself as “red white and blue, representing America, and San Diego at large.” It takes a few beers in you to make such a bold claim.

Hope they have another one before the nights get too warm. As one attendee put it, “This sh–‘s hot!”

What’cha doin’? Veg-n-Out!

Veg-n-Out is my new favorite, a comfort food café in North Park that caters to vegetarians. The menu consists of dozens of delicious home-made burgers with names like the Tree Hugger, the Elvis, and the Big Kahuna. (You can view the menu here.) It’s not fast food, but worth the wait. Open seven days a week, they also cater.

I would say “only in San Diego,” but apparently Chicago beat us to it. This Friday, February 13th, there will be a pub crawl in North Park. The only requirement to join: You must be wearing a Snuggie. You know, that blanket with sleeves that’s advertised on TV.

Ruggy J., the local Yelp community manager, is organizing this. I reserve judgement as to whether “Snuggie” rhyming with “Ruggy” is a factor. I just hope someone brings a video camera.
