Los Amigos Invisibles are a fantastic band from Venezuela. They play a mélange of funk and disco flavored with Latin rhythms and put on one of the very best live shows I have seen. They’ll be at the House of Blues on Thursday August 6th.

If you miss their show, you might want to pick up one of their albums; their latest is titled Commercial.

Ozomatli, out of the City of Angels, play a collision of hip hop and salsa, dancehall and cumbia, samba and funk, merengue and comparsa, East LA R&B and New Orleans second line, Jamaican ragga and Indian raga. I’ve been a fan since their first album and have seen them perform at venues small and large. Their live show is a high-energy delight. Now, they are returning to San Diego as headliners at the 5th Annual San Diego Healing Arts Festival on Sunday, May 3rd, 2009 in Balboa Park. I don’t know about the Healing Arts Festival, but a little Ozo will cure what ails me!

Also appearing and not to be missed:
The Greyboy Allstars
Buck-O-Nine
Pau Hana
Lady Dottie & the Diamonds

Dizzy’s, a project of musician Chuck Perrin, is currently hosted by the San Diego Wine & Culinary Center at 2nd & J Street. On many nights of the week, one can have a nice, simple meal and listen to great music! Dizzy’s upcoming calendar has dates featuring Gilbert Castellanos, Jaime Valle, Kendra Shank, and Peter Sprague. It’s an all-ages venue, so you can bring the niece or nephew with musical aspirations along. You can purchase a meal or beverages with plastic, but Chuck only takes cash for the cover; be prepared! See the FAQ for any questions you may have. I hope to see you there some night soon.

A staple in San Diego morning Talk Radio, at least since Howard Stern was booted from our airwaves, is The Mikey Show. Well, on March 18th, 2009, The Mikey Show found the blogosphere’s beloved micro-blogging cult, Twitter, and they all joined.
Now, they’re still new, but I think us San Diegans can give them a warm welcome to Twitter and get them off to a good start. Perhaps they’ll get addicted. Let’s find out.

Fans of Richard Cheese and Lounge Against the Machine (Dickheads) will be thrilled to know that the 2009 Martini Hero Farewell Tour is coming to San Diego. That’s right! The Big Cheese and his band will be at the House of Blues in downtown San Diego on the 22nd of July. General Admission tickets start at only $29. Hurry! This may be your last chance to hear Richard sing his swankified versions of hits like American Idiot, Hot for Teacher, Badd, and Baby Got Back. Well, at least until next year.
Update: Richard recently sent an email addressed to “Fans, Friends, and Packaged Liquor Store Owners” letting us know that, “This year, I am performing my final farewell tour. I’ve been lounging against the machine since our first CD debuted in 2000, and it’s time for me to hang up my tiger-striped tux. THIS IS REALLY IT. The concerts scheduled on our 2009 “MARTINI HERO” tour will be the last ones we ever play, so I hope you will please try to make it to one of our shows and experience that swing thing that we bring.“
