AIDS Walk & Run San Diego returns for 21st year Sunday Sept. 26

If you like getting up early, enjoy a walk in the park, and want to support a worthy cause, you’re in luck. The 21st Annual AIDS Walk & Run San Diego, the largest one-day HIV/AIDS fundraiser in San Diego County, is being held Sunday, September 26.

The 5K walk starts at 8:05 AM, and the 10K run starts at 8:00 AM. The starting point is in Balboa Park near the corner of Sixth Avenue and Quince Street. Online registration is available, and you can register in person on the day of the walk/run starting at 6:00 AM at the registration tent at Sixth Avenue and Olive Street.

Supporting local HIV/AIDS services is especially important this year, when the state has been hit with record unemployment and medication assistance programs have been cut. Funds are desperately needed for testing, prevention, education efforts, treatment for those with low incomes, or counseling for those infected and affected. The money raised at this event stays here in San Diego and supports dozens of local groups and programs which might not otherwise exist.

I’ll be walking with the Qualcomm team, as I have for the last 5 years. Show you care and make a donation today!

20th Annual AIDS Walk San Diego this Sunday

If you like getting up early, enjoy a walk in the park, and want to support a worthy cause, you’re in luck this week. The 20th Annual AIDS Walk San Diego, the largest one-day HIV/AIDS fundraiser in San Diego County, is being held this Sunday.

The 5K walk starts at 8:05 AM, and the 10K run starts at 8:00 AM. The starting point is in Balboa Park near the corner of Sixth Avenue and Quince Street. Online registration is now closed, but you can register in person starting at 6:00 AM at the registration tent at Sixth Avenue and Olive Street.

Supporting local HIV/AIDS services is especially important this year, as state budget cuts have slashed funding by $1 million in San Diego and $83 million statewide. That’s money that won’t go to testing, prevention, education efforts, treatment for those with low incomes, or counseling for those infected and affected. The money raised at this event stays here in San Diego and supports dozens of local groups and programs which might not otherwise exist.

I’ll be walking with the Qualcomm team. Show you care and make a donation today!

Celebrate Earth Day with organic beer!

Beer: Proof that the Earth loves us

Beer: Proof that the Earth loves us

Happy Earth Day! Did you make it to the big shindig in Balboa Park last weekend? Well, even if you didn’t, it’s not too late to celebrate – Earth Day is today!

As you may know, here at SD Metblogs we love the Blind Lady Ale House, and they are doing something special for Mother Earth today. Among the many fine brews they serve, there are about 7 that are organic. For every organic beer purchased today, BLAH will donate $1 to the local chapter of the Surfrider Foundation. How’s that for putting your money where your mouth is?

If you’re more tempted by fun or financial gain than doing good, then I should tell you they are also screening some old surf movies on a decidedly non-digital projector, and will be raffling off posters, gift cards, DVDs, and cases of beer.

Beer, prizes, and surf movies? Done. Meet you there!

Bowling for Bunnies

b4a

It’s Bowling for the Animals (B4A) time again. The eleventh annual event will be held Sunday, April 26th at the Vista Entertainment Center. With snacks, a raffle, and bowling it’s sure to be good, clean, family fun. Proceeds this year go to the Spay Neuter Action Project to help build a new Stationary Spay/Neuter Clinic which will provide family planning to cats, dogs, and bunnies. Help the Bun City Bowlers by visiting http://www.firstgiving.com/judithpierce and sponsoring them and, if you can, come to the event and cheer them on.
