I would say “only in San Diego,” but apparently Chicago beat us to it. This Friday, February 13th, there will be a pub crawl in North Park. The only requirement to join: You must be wearing a Snuggie. You know, that blanket with sleeves that’s advertised on TV.

Ruggy J., the local Yelp community manager, is organizing this. I reserve judgement as to whether “Snuggie” rhyming with “Ruggy” is a factor. I just hope someone brings a video camera.

The Snuggie itself has been featured on the Oprah Winfrey Show and Ellen, and ever since has spawned dozens of Internet parodies. For example:

I’m trying to imagine a large group of people wearing Snuggies and getting progressively drunker as they make their way around North Park. I have no Snuggie or even a Slanket (which, apparently, is an acceptable substitute), but may just hang around the vicinity and snap pictures. Why not? Could they stop me? Have you seen someone try to run in a Snuggie?

For more details, see the Snuggie Pub Crawl page on Yelp.

LATE ADD – The story got picked up by the local NBC affiliate:
